Strickland-Davis Scholarship
The purpose of the Strickland-Davis Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to three BGCT students pursuing a degree in a field of study related to the commands of Micah 6:8: Do Justice, Love Kindness, Walk Humbly. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded each school year and are available to Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral level students. 

Applications must be submitted no later than Tuesday, July 1, 2025. 

Recipients will be notified by Friday, August 1, 2025. 

General Guidelines
  • Each applicant must be a member of a BGCT church that actively gives to the BGCT Cooperative Program. 
  • Recipients will receive a total of $1,000 per academic year. Funds will be sent to schools by early fall of each school year.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered for funding. Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Essay Requirement

    Applications must include an essay answering the following prompt:

    The CLC works to equip leaders to live out the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:34-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Describe how you are tangibly living out both the Great Commandment and Great Commission, and how this scholarship will help equip you to continue living out the Great Commandment and Great Commission in your respective field of study.

  • All new (first-time) applicants must have a 3.0 GPA. Renewal applicants must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

  • CLC Commissioners, BGCT employees, and their spouses are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

CHURCH CONTACT INFORMATION
Beginning 2021,  applicants must have a pastor recommendation from current church membership (does not need to be senior/lead pastor). IF possible, this letter should be submitted on church stationery and must contain the church’s name and physical address as well as current contact information for the pastor. The letter should be written to affirm the membership and participation of the application in the church, including the length of time the applicant has been a member of the church. PDF Electronic Submissions are acceptable. 










NEW APPLICANT ESSAY REQUIREMENT

Applications must include an essay addressing how the applicant will utilize a degree in their field of study to apply the mission and charge of Micah 6:8. Essay must not exceed 1500 words. Essays will be evaluated anonymously according to the following criteria:

  1.  Content: How clearly does the applicant relate his/her field of study to the mission and charge of Micah 6:8? (50%)
  2.  Clarity: Is the essay clear to read and without major grammatical and spelling errors? (20%)
  3.  Composition: The essay should demonstrate a firm grasp of Micah 6:8 and Christian conviction to apply the principles of justice, kindness, and walking humbly to the Christian life. (30%) 

You may submit the essay to this application or email a copy of your essay to clc@texasbaptists.org. YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED "COMPLETE" UNTIL THE ESSAY AND ALL ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTS ARE RECEIVED. 
RENEWAL APPLICANT ESSAY REQUIREMENT

Applications must include an essay expressing gratitude for previously awarded Strickland-Davis Scholarship funds and describing how these funds have impacted your future. Essay must not exceed 1500 words. Essays will be evaluated anonymously according to the following criteria:

  1. Tell us about yourself: Share something that is unique about you (for example: are you the first in your family to attend college?). Name the scholarship in its entirety (Strickland-Davis Scholarship). (30%)
  2. Express appreciation and gratitude for previously awarded funds and explain how these funds have enabled you to concentrate on your education?  When do you plan to graduate?  What are your plans after graduation? How do you continue to apply the mission and charge of Micah 6:8 to your life? (50%)
  3. Clarity: Is the essay clear to read and without major grammatical and spelling errors? (20%)

The contents of this application will be held in the strictest confidence by the staff of the Christian Life Commission. Any applications that contain false information will be disqualified. Incomplete applications will not be considered. In order for this application to be considered complete the following must be received:
